Prepared? is built to need as little of your information as possible. This page explains what that means for the app and for this website.
Who we are
Prepared? is published by Captivated Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15936109), registered office Electric Works C/O Captivated Ltd, 3 Concourse Way, Sheffield, United Kingdom, S1 2BJ. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (reference ZC010118). Captivated Ltd is the data controller for the personal data described here.
The app
The Prepared? app is local-first. The details you enter, such as your household, the supplies you own, and where you keep them, are stored only on your device. They are not sent to us, and there is no account and no cloud sync in this version.
- We do not collect, receive, or store your household inventory or any personal data you enter.
- We do not track your usage or build a profile of you.
- Any backup you create stays under your control and does not come to us.
- The camera is used only to scan barcodes; nothing is recorded or stored.
- Features that use Apple's on-device intelligence run entirely on your device.
This website
This website does not set advertising or tracking cookies. We use Plausible Analytics to count visits. It is cookieless, does not collect personal data or track you across sites, and reports only totals. Plausible is an EU company and processes this data in the EU. If you email us, we use your message only to reply.
The newsletter
If you sign up to our newsletter, we collect your email address. To keep a record of your consent, we also store the date and time you signed up and confirmed, the page you signed up from, your browser's user-agent string, and a one-way hashed (irreversible) form of your IP address. We do not store your IP address itself.
Lawful basis: your consent. We use double opt-in: we send you a confirmation link first, and send nothing else until you click it. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the one-click unsubscribe link in every email, or by emailing us. We use your address only to send this newsletter. We never sell it, and signing up to this newsletter does not add you to any other.
Who processes it for us: the newsletter runs on our own system hosted by Cloudflare (Workers, a D1 database in its Western Europe region, and Turnstile), and emails are delivered by Mailgun (Mailgun Technologies, Inc., a Sinch company) using its EU region. Both act as our data processors under contract. Both are US-incorporated companies, so while your data is stored in the EU, Standard Contractual Clauses in their data processing agreements are what make the arrangement lawful.
The sign-up check: the sign-up form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated sign-ups. It loads only on pages with the sign-up form.
How long we keep it: for as long as you stay subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record so that we can honour your choice and not add you again. If you ask us to erase your data, we delete it; copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to around 30 days before they age out.

Some guides may include a separate "Where to get one" section with links to Amazon. These are ordinary links: they run no code on this website and set no cookies here. If you follow one, Amazon may set its own cookies on its own website under its own privacy and cookie notices. See our affiliate links page for more.
Your rights
Because the app holds your data only on your device, you are in control of it: you can edit or delete it in the app at any time. For the newsletter, and for anything relating to email you have sent us, you have the right under UK GDPR to access, correct or erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Contact us and we will help.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
