About Prepared?
Prepared? helps ordinary UK households become genuinely more ready for disruption, from a power cut or water outage to a storm or flood. It brings the useful ideas of preparedness into the mainstream, without the fear, the jargon, or the subculture.
It is for the person who saw a weather warning, or heard about an outage two streets over, and thought "I should probably do something about that" without knowing where to start.
How we think about it
- Local-first. The app works with no network and no account. Anything online is a bonus, never a requirement.
- Private by construction. A record of what you own and where you keep it is sensitive. It stays on your device.
- No fear or hype. We motivate through competence. No countdowns to disaster, no crisis marketing.
- Measured in days. If your weakest essential lasts a day, it says a day. We never inflate the number to make you feel readier than you are.
Who makes it
Prepared? is built by Captivated Ltd, a UK software company, and is written and maintained by its founder, Leon Mallett. It is an independent project, aligned in spirit with the government's Prepare campaign, and not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body.
We are software makers, not emergency responders or clinicians, and we are careful about that line. The general preparedness guidance here is our own, written plainly and linked to official sources. Safety-critical content such as first aid is sourced from recognised authorities and attributed, never written by us or generated by software.
