Storing water safely
Keeping a little drinking water set aside is one of the simplest ways to be ready for a supply interruption.
How much
Aim for about 3 litres per person per day for drinking. A few days’ worth is a sensible start, and you can build up from there.
Keeping it clean
- Use clean containers with tight lids: large bottles or a dedicated water carrier are ideal.
- Store them somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight.
- Label each container with the date you filled it.
Keeping it fresh
Swap tap-filled water for fresh every six months. Shop-bought bottled water will have its own best-before date: rotate it as you would any store-cupboard item.
