Getting ready for a power cut
Most power cuts are over quickly, but a little preparation makes even a long one easier.
Worth having to hand
- A torch with spare batteries, safer and brighter than a phone, and it won’t drain the phone you may need.
- A power bank, kept charged, for your phone.
- Warm layers and a blanket, in case the heating is off for a while.
Good to know
- Call 105: it’s free and connects you to your local network operator across Great Britain to report a cut and get updates.
- An unopened fridge or freezer keeps food cold for hours: a full freezer holds its temperature for around a day.
