A pandemic, and staying home
If a serious illness is going round, the aim is simple: reduce how much it spreads, and be able to stay home comfortably for a while. A few lessons from recent years.
Stock a little extra
- A couple of weeks of food, water and any regular medicines means fewer trips out if you’re asked to stay home.
Hygiene
- Wash your hands well and often; keep soap, hand sanitiser and cleaning supplies in.
- A few face masks are worth having.
In the home
- Ventilate: opening a window now and then clears the air indoors.
- If someone is unwell, give them space where you can.
Trusted information
- Follow the NHS and gov.uk for advice, and be wary of rumours on social media. If you’re worried about someone’s health, use NHS 111, or 999 in an emergency.
