Keeping warm in a cold snap
Severe cold is a real risk, especially for older people and anyone unwell. Keeping warm is mostly about layers, one warm room, and doing it safely.
Keeping warm
- Heat one room to around 18°C rather than the whole home.
- Wear several thin layers, and keep moving a little.
- Have hot food and warm drinks.
Stay safe
- Never run a BBQ, camping stove, or petrol generator indoors or in a closed space: carbon monoxide is invisible and can kill.
- Keep candles away from anything that can catch.
Look out for each other
- Check on elderly or unwell neighbours. If you’re worried about someone’s health, call 111, or 999 in an emergency.
