Making a simple household plan
A plan doesn’t need to be elaborate. A few things agreed in advance save a lot of worry on the day.
Agree together
- Where you’ll meet if you can’t get home or have to leave.
- Who to check on: an elderly neighbour or relative nearby.
- How you’ll reach each other if the phone network is busy.
Keep it reachable
- Note down key numbers on paper: your GP, insurer, and your energy and water suppliers.
- Keep copies of important documents somewhere safe, and consider a photo of each on your phone.
A little cash
- Keep some cash at home. Power cuts and IT outages can stop card machines and cashpoints, and a little money covers the essentials until systems are back.
